Key Stage 2
This year in Geography we will be looking at a range of physical and human topics that affect us locally, nationally and globally: · Investigating Dorchester (using small-scale maps, a compass, carrying out a survey and presenting the data, investigating the River Frome, New Poundbury, the Dorchester by-pass) · The physical geography of the UK · The Human impact on the environment (sustainability, recycling, reducing, re-using) · Village life in Bangladesh · Settlement – why do people live where they do? · Life in the mountains · Global climate change · The role of water, the wind and the sun · Investigating rivers Investigating the coast (including fieldwork at Lulworth Cove)
Key Stage 3
Years 7,8 and 9 will be studying physical and human geography locally, nationally and globally, with the stress on finding links between the two. In Year 9 we will start to look at past GCSE papers. The physical geography of Dorchester, Dorset and the UK Managing the Earth’s resources The human impact (pollution, global warming, population growth, migration) Weather and environmental hazards Glacial landscapes Basic geological landscapes, weathering, earthquakes, volcanoes Ecosystems Industrial change The EU Geographical skills (cartographic, graphical, ICT etc)
Key Stage 4

Dorchester and South Dorset is a paradise for geographers, and lots of field trips, visits and walks are planned for the year including Cheddar Gorge, Lulworth Cove, Portland and walks along the profile of the River Frome.
